The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally recognized test to assess your English Knowledge. It is required to prove your English Knowledge upon migrating to an English speaking country for study, work or migration purposes. This includes countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and USA. IELTS is the most popular test for those looking to migrate to these countries. It is globally recognised by more than 11,000 employers, universities, schools and immigration bodies including 3,400 institutions in the USA.
There are two types of IELTS: Academic and General Training. The Listening and Speaking tests are same but Reading and Writing tests are different. A score is given for each test component (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), which are averaged and rounded to produce an overall band score.

IELTS results are valid for only two years.
There are two IELTS exams per month in Sri Lanka. The exam registration payment is Rs. 75,000 as of January 2024.
